At Diamond Lawn, we offer answers to frequently asked questions that help solve customer concerns:
1. What can I expect from my lawn care program?
Our program will provide you with a green and weed-free lawn.
2. Why do you use granular fertilizers?
We are committed to using the finest products available to achieve the highest quality results. We believe in fertilizing from the soil line to the root system; granular fertilizers provide this type of feeding.
3. Other companies left granular fertilizer on my walks and drives. Will your service do this too?
We guarantee to blow clean all walks and drives from fertilizers after each application.
4. Why is grub control included in the basic program? What are grub worms?
Grubs are the most damaging of all turf pests. By including this control in the program, we are able to prevent this type of damage and lessen the infestation of other turf pests such as Chinch bugs, sod webworms, etc. Please note: We can substitute grub control for nutgrass control at your request.
5. Can you really control Dallisgrass? What about if Dallisgrass is in St. Augustine turf?
Yes, our technicians treat this weed at the root zone. This allows us to effectively control, or even eliminate this weed, from your lawn. We will re-treat as needed in hot weather. St. Augustine is easily damaged from Dallisgrass controls. We will contact you concerning to what extent we can control this weed in St. Augustine.
6. Do your lawn treatments include all turf areas of my property, including alleys?
Absolutely, we will treat or mow your alley, as long as you provide access.
7. How will your products affect my pets?
Our granular fertilizers are safe while still affective in feeding the turf. Our liquid treatments for weeds and insects are safe after they thoroughly dry. Watering in will further reduce any toxicity.
8. When can I let the kids outside?
Children can play outside in the yard after the application is completely dry. This may take up to 30 minutes. Granular fertilizers typically pose no toxicity to children or pets.
9. Nutgrass, or nutsedge, is a problem in my lawn and landscape. Can you control this weed?
Yes, there are products to effectively control Nutgrass in the lawn and landscape beds. The lawn treatments can be included in your program and scheduled in early June. There is also a control for Nutgrass in the beds. The products we use for lawn are not the same in the landscape. We also recommend mulching landscape beds for weed control. These products really work well.
10. Since I only have weeds in the spring, why should I get the fall pre-emergents?
Most winter weeds begin to germinate in the fall; that is the best time to control them. Spring pre-emergents are designed to control the weed problems that occur during the summer months. Spring and fall pre-emergents in combination are designed to virtually eliminate turf weed problems. This is your most effective weed program.
11. What if I notice weeds still actively growing a couple weeks after your last application?
Contact us! There is no extra charge for service calls. Our technicians will gladly revisit your property to make sure our programs are working.
12. When can you treat for grassy weeds?
Dallisgrass, Bluestem and Johnson grass all need hot weather for weed controls to work properly. This means 90 degrees or higher. Watering the next day and keeping a watering schedule over the next 2 weeks will lessen any damage to Bermuda grass and hasten recovery of desirable turf.
13. How long will it take for my broadleaf weeds, such as henbit, take to disappear?
Broadleaf weed controls should complete their control cycle with in 14 days. After this time it is safe for your Technician to retreat stubborn weed problems. Call if weeds are present at this time. There is no extra charge to full program clients should a request be needed for .
14. How often will I receive applications?
We schedule our applications every six to eight weeks. Some optional applications, such as Nutgrass, Grub Control or Dalligrass sprays may overlap the regular lawn program visits. These applications are best done when weather and timing permit their most effective control.
15. Will your Tree and Shrub program include my fruit trees?
Our Tree and Shrub program is designed for landscape ornamentals. We can fertilize and use our dormant oil on fruit bearing trees. Our insect and disease control may be systemic, and this may not be suitable for fruit bearing trees and shrubs. Call our office for additional instruction on the care of fruit trees.
16. How can I get grass to grow in the shade?
Bermuda grass will not tolerate shade. We normally consider St. Augustine grass as our shade grass. If shade is excessive in areas, Fescue grass has been our last resort turf for these areas. With trees, houses and fences coming together on a property, many times it will need landscape solutions. Turf has a higher requirement for sun and air then some landscape plants. This may require a visit to discuss positive solutions.
